Sacred Nightmare: Memoirs and Movement for Adult Children of Parental (ACOPS) suicide begins as a personal memoir, with stories and examples intricately woven to frame the powerful impact parental suicide leaves on their marginalized adult children. Facing the suicide of a parent as an adult is disorienting and shattering to one's sense of self and safety. Sacred Nightmare's mission is to walk with adult children of parental suicide (ACOPS) as they wade in the depths of mental and physical despair while raising a family, building a career, and/or being married. The suicide of a parent may conjure questions of who you are and "How did I get here?" Sacred Nightmare shares interviews of other ACOPS who have come through the other side, are living a life of movement and momentum, and want to pass on words of wisdom and comfort. Part of the book highlights how family, friends, and professionals may help support ACOPS in their journey. The last part of Sacred Nightmare offers strategies, ideas, suggestions, comfort, and hope from this author's perspective as a marriage and family therapist and as one who has experienced the suicide of a parent as an adult. Sacred Nightmare is written so that those of you suffering do not have to suffer alone in the darkness as we explore our pain and enter the light together.
