Victimhood, for many in America, is no longer a problem to be solved but it has become an identity in itself that many feel must be nurtured, defended, & in far too many cases weaponized. Why are we so fixated on the trojan horse of race in modern times? Why does it seem that the United States has not progressed but regressed? Are we just as or even more "racist" as a country than we were in the 50s and 60s? What happens when race and racism become the scapegoat and all other realities or causes denied, ignored or insufficiently dealt with? What happens when victimhood becomes an identity to fixate upon and nurture instead of a problem to quickly overcome? As Americans, despite the level of melanin in our skin (or the lack thereof) we must examine the story we've been told and push forward to write a better future one where race is truly not real and victimhood no longer sells.
