Thorns of Disappointment takes place in the rural commuity of Elkland, Pennsylvania U. S. A. It's a heart-breaking story about the struggles and emotional challenges the Strickland Family deals with when their teenage daughter becomes pregnant. Marjorie Strickland and Richard Jenkins discover that their 4th of July Fireworks date in 1929 resulted in Marjorie's pregnancy. Richard is coerced into abandoning Marjorie and joins the U. S. Navy. Marjorie's father, Harry, informs her that their lives will be filled with thorns of disappointment. Little did he realize the size and volume of the thorns and the magnitude of the pain inflected.
