It is 1943. The world has been at war for 4 years, but James Callicoe's war is only just beginning. His father had pulled some strings and made him a Ministry man, a reserved occupation exempt from conscription. Having always been told what to do, where to go and what to think; Callicoe decided that wasn't the life he wanted. So, he volunteered for the Fleet Air Arm. After earning his wings and getting a commission as a Sub Lieutenant in the Wavy Navy, he's been posted to the Far East on the aircraft carrier, HMS Lancer.
