The Philippian Church was unlike all the churches than begun before it, because it was the first church planted in Europe. It was also unique in that Paul received the Macedonian call from a man of Macedonia who prayed (requested) him to come over into Macedonia and to help them. See Acts 16:9. No one knows who this man was, but he was probably a grace believer that had heard the gospel of grace (Acts 20:24) in Asia and had told some of his fellow Macedonians the good news and wanted Paul to come and establish churches in that area.
