" Does Empoewerment Motivate Employees in the Hospitality Industry (Sri-Lanka), to Increase Performance" is a thesis/ dessertation which I submitted to the University of Wales (Cardiff) for my Master of Business Administration Degree in 2007, obtaining a grade Distinction. This was mainly related the area of Human Resources Management. This study was mainly based on finding out whether Empowerment actually motiavtes employees, inorder to increse performance. To do so, empowerment was related to the frontline employee job motivation and performance levels. The study report is mainly a discriptive study based on a random sample of 98 fronline emplyees dealing with customers, selected from a target population of hotel sector employees in the Sri-Lankan Hospitlatity Industry. The Instrument used was a structured questionnaire in order to collect the quantitative data, and the study achieved a response rate of 90%. Quantitative analysis based on the biviarate analysis techniques indicated that, empowerment when implemented in the workplace do have a significant positive relationship with motivation of the employees inorder to increase performance. Inaddition, the study also makes a significant contribution to the empowerment theory by showing that, there is a hidden factor behind the empowerment concept in incresing performance other than by motivating employees, which proposes potential avenues for further research...............
