This book is intended as a primer on oil painting as it is taught at the Acorn Gallery School of Art in Marblehead, Massachusetts. It will become a guide for some and a bible for others. Remember, mighty oaks from little acorns grow. If followed, this will take you through all the steps that will contribute to your becoming a painter. The rest is up to you. All the lessons in this book have been simplified for you to understand the basic foundations of drawing and painting. As you progress in your practice, more questions will come to mind, which you will be able to answer on your own. Just ask: Is this drawing correct? Your answer will be found in the Gesture - Drawing and Measuring. Is this value light enough? Your answer will be found in The Six Lights and The Apple and the Pear. Is this color intense enough? Your answer will be found in the Color Assignment. The lessons in this book are all you need to understand representational drawing and painting. The rest will come with practice, as you find your own hand.
