When the world ends, people don't. Alex Park was an uninvolved PR manager living in North Vancouver, toiling away at his daily life while the world went on around him. Markets crashed, governments cracked down and all he could do was type away at the keyboard at his desk and hope that the world wouldn't come crashing down onto him. It did. When the apocalypse comes, Alex is forced to flee the city before nuclear hellfire rains down on everything he's ever known or loved. And in the aftermath, he and a small group of co-workers must endure the life that goes on after the end of the world, trying to survive in the hellish aftermath of atomic annihilation. As the people around him split and argue over what this new world means, Alex finds himself torn between the two sides of his own consciousness. What was more important? Survival, or doing what's right? When the chips are down, and your back is against the wall, who do you chose to be? Shadow of the Cascade is a debut novel by aspiring author Kai Hugessen. Written during the worldwide Quarantine enacted due to COVID-19, Shadow of the Cascade is a reflection of the best and worst aspects of the human spirit. It was driven by the fundamental questions we ask about the end of the world. More importantly, it was driven by a need to know what would happen after it.
