As if graduating from Elementary school and moving to Middle school is not hard enough, tact on the pressures of protecting an ancient book. Lizzie and Barrington are two cousins and previously unlikely friends. Barrington and his military family move from Florida to Maryland over the summer, next door to his cousin Lizzie. Barrington is outgoing, has a huge following on his social media account, Quiqgram, as a prankster, and is concerned with fitting in so far away from his old friends and home. He struggles with his identity in trying to discover a new nickname for himself. He has been called Bear his entire life, but now feels he has outgrown the name and would like something new to fit his life in Maryland, as well as show his maturity as a pre-teen. Lizzie has lived in Maryland her entire life, but somehow feels disconnected from her peers. Elementary school was difficult being one of few biracial kids. Lizzie hopes to gain confidence and make friends that accept her for who she is as she transitions to a more diverse Middle school; the only problem being herself. She admires her cousin's confidence, which has always caused friction in their relationship, but will learn she needs him more than she thinks. The two unlikely friends begin their transition to Middle school and learn to lean on each other along the way. They are faced with another challenge of discovering they are the Crimson Key Holders of The Book of Answers; a pre-teen sequel to The Gemini Quest (YA). While tackling Middle school, they must also return the book to The Valley of Scapes and protect it from the Sire who desires to steal it and use it for forbidden personal gain.
