PLAIN JANE is a contemporary retelling of Charlotte Bronte's JANE EYRE. Set in the expansive, Dragon Run Samp, PLAIN JANE follows the story of a young girl as she comes of age. Living on the edge of the Dragon, Jane finds peace, comfort, and beauty. She never suspects the danger that lurks at the edge of her backyard. A killer is on the loose and Jane has no idea how close her path has tangentially followed the path of a killer.

A new future comes in her removal from her home under the roof of a cruel aunt and cousins who bully her unchecked, but new challenges await her at Lowood Farm School, a rural boarding school for children with reading difficulties. Girls go missing in the Dragon, as told in stories that have become an urban legend. When Jane's first and dearest friend, Helen Burns, is taken by the Dragon Killer, the legends become reality and a new lesson from the Dragon; the swamp holds much beauty, but everything in the Dragon, good and evil, struggle for balance.

Jane overcomes loss and takes a position at Thornfield Hall, a large, American Gothic estate at the southern-most end of the Dragon, and there she meets Edward Rochester, mercurial, lonely, and with much in common with Jane.

But other forces are at play in the vast home. Things go missing, things go bump, and these things seem to happen when Edward Rochester is away on business. When another woman goes missing, Jane never imagines who might bear the blame.
