Amanda Walsh flew to the aid of a old friend. A simple reconnection with the best of intentions. What started out as a quick move-cross-country trip, soon turned into the pay attention moment of a lifetime. A journey filled with deceit, twisted law and the realization that none of us are immune, Amanda finds herself behind bars in unfamiliar territory. While she spends several days trying to figure out how to communicate with the outside world she is abandoned, tested and enlightened.

Cruz Lu, the arresting officer, finds herself in a compromised position. Amanda's arrest is more than questionable, Officer Lu did not follow protocol. She is walking a thin line, both professionally and personally. Her marriage is spiraling out of control, and she is guilty of more than anyone knows.

Leland Cockburn, Amanda's useless traveling companion, spends the days in a nearby hotel room. A room he cannot pay for. Smoking and drunk-dialing people under the guise of trying to "help" Amanda, he does more damage than good.

The six nights Amanda spends trying to get out of Deming are filled with the stories of those who are never heard; the women behind bars trying to survive within the walls and the secrets held by those who imprison them.
