What is the nature of duty and how do we know that our actions are either necessary or meaningful? Is evil always banal and is good always progressive? For the soldier, these questions are particularly salient given that his or her duty often requires that they apparently circumvent God's most profound commandment. Then what of heaven and of hell? What of death and reincarnation? Angels and demons? What of justice? These questions are considered by a protagonist in one of the most terrible events mankind is yet to face - the second world war - as a sniper tasked with protecting Jewish lives in occupied Paris.
