1955.

Sisters Freyja and Jeanie MacAulay live an idyllic life on the Orkney island of Falun.

But Freyja is shattered when she hears the news that her beloved sister will soon be going to boarding school leaving Freyja alone.

Freyja tries everything to stop her leaving, but one day she watches from her bedroom window as Jeanie walks along their track, waves at her, then disappears.

She never comes back.

Nine years later, aged eighteen, Freyja's life is once again turned upside down.
