August is "Fair Time" in Washington, Missouri. Summer is at its peak, and 5 days of fun are scheduled! Friends, neighbors and visitors gather at the Fairgrounds for this annual celebration. There are rides, wonderful interactive livestock events, a one-man band, Motocross, big-name entertainment, the popular Queen contest, Home Economics exhibits, and more. Food is everywhere: funnel cakes, corn dogs, the "Potato Tornado", pork steaks, and goodies for every palate. A waffle ice cream sandwich is really a must. Washington's Town & Country Fair is one of Missouri's oldest and largest, dating back to 1928. By the way, a group of former Queens make an appearance in this book, beginning with 1961's lovely Alice. And there is Miss Velma, with the prize-winning pie. There are children you may know, and they are having a delightful time! The Tilt-A-Whirl, the Scrambler and the Ferris Wheel all have seats saved for YOU.
