You have heard the expression, "You are what you eat!" This is true but include in that expression, you are what you eat, when you eat, and how you eat and you will discover the importance of this book. Heart disease, obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure and so many other ailments can be improved with how we eat. In the book, "How to Eat to Live" by the Honorable Elijah Muhammad, we are given what foods to eat and many important principles that will lead to better health. How we put this message into practical application is what so many struggle with each day. As a member of the Nation of Islam, I have followed the principles in the book off and on for 40 years but had been unable to master them so that how I ate became a way of life. Even trying to follow the principles has allowed me to live a relatively healthy life considering diabetes is throughout my family tree. My mother had uncontrollable diabetes. Her sister and many, many of her first cousins not only had diabetes but as a result, suffered from kidney failure. Following "How to Eat to Live" in principle has kept me from diabetes although both sisters and a brother are pre-diabetic. Since I am the family cook, I believe they don't have full blown diabetes because of the things I cook that they have incorporated in their diets. So many of us take the principles in the book for suggestions. They are not suggestions, if you want to live a long, healthy life. It is not enough to live until you are 80, 90 or 100 years of age. I you are not healthy, it is not living, it is not life, it is existing. Therefore, I have taken to heart all that I am being taught from the book, "How to Eat to Live", and I have developed a system of putting it into practice. The main point of "How to Eat to Live", after of course eliminating pork from your diet, is to eat one meal a day. I have done so off and on for years but have never mastered this principle until now. How I mastered this principle is the reason for the book. The proof of the benefits of following this book for me is in the medical examinations that I received last year from my oncologist and my internist. You may ask why an oncologist? In 2010 and again in 2013, I suffered from breast cancer. I don't know where it came from but I do know that I was (emphasize was) a sugarholic. I understand that cancer cells feed on sugar. Anyway, both doctors at my last physical a few months ago, gave me glowing reviews. I had also lost weight which is a benefit of healthy eating Many doctors today are espousing the principles found in the book but credit is not being given for the initial source of this information. I thank the Honorable Elijah Muhammad for giving us this information over 70 years ago and he said he got it from Master Fard Muhammad, God in person. The scriptures said that He would come and tell us what to eat and what to store in our homes. So let's not take this information for granted, as suggestions.. I am mastering "How to Eat to Live" and I want to share these lessons with you so that we will be "Healthy for Life"
