Simply being black in the United States can be a death sentence. Walking, jogging, living, and breathing can be a death sentence. Simply put, being Black in the United States is overwhelming, exhausting, and a constant battle. The fear of "black" is irrational. That fear is what gets our sons, daughters, friends, cousins, uncles, fathers, brothers, mothers, and sisters killed and their lives swept under the rug. It is much easier to turn a blind eye to the sufferings of those who did not have the opportunity to decide if they wanted to be in this country in the first place. It is easier to avoid the discussions on racism and pretend that it does not exist than to acknowledge it so we can move on.
