Equality
Thomas L Poteet
I did not choose when and where I was born. I did not choose to be born to blue-collar parents in a mostly blue-collar neighborhood. I did not choose the church, where I would later attend Sunday School. I did not choose to go to the elementary school a block away . . . nor the junior high school or high school . . . all within walking distance. I did not choose my DNA . . . nor did my ancestors. I did not choose any of these things. No one does. Equality - A Primer is a short history of thirty-years of poetry related to the equality of humanity. Though we are not the same, we are all equal. We come from different backgrounds, from different nations, from different religions. We do not look the same, the colors of our skin are not the same, but we are all children of the Most High God. We are equal in His Sight. It is that simple.
