COVID Warriors
Jeff Neil
The book starts with the story of Dr. Sam who is a knowledgeable and hardworking anesthesiologist practicing at a small private hospital of New Delhi. Here he has to argue almost daily with the operating surgeons on issues of patient safety during anesthesia and surgery. While doing this he reveals intriguing aspects of his medical specialty unknown to even the educated class of the world and especially India. He explains in detail what happens in an anesthesiologist's minds while he is anesthetizing the patient for surgery. He fights for even the trivial matters that are voluntarily ignored by the operating surgeons for the greed of making money. His story unravels the technical details of how a patient is anesthetized and returned back, in a simple language that even a non-medical person could also comprehend. As the bill of Country Population Register (CPR) was passed in the Indian Parliament anti-CPR protests erupted all over India. Sayema and Rasheed, the journalists from DTV news covered the protests in Jawaharlal University (JU) of New Delhi after an anonymous tip. Somehow they found themselves in the center of a heinous crime being committed in the name of maintaining national security. The anti-CPR protests found a new place at the 'Ahin Bagh' of New Delhi as ladies of all ages with children gathered against the law. The government was now in a fix with no solution in sight to disperse the crowd of Ahin Bagh which was gathering too much international attention. CPR was important for the government. While the country singed in the fire of anti-CPR protests, Dr. Li Xua and Dr. Liu the two Chinese scientists worked hard to find the effect of newly made viral agent in the BSL-4 lab of Wuhu, China. They discussed in detail about the efficacy of the genetically modified strain of Coronavirus. In the meantime the viral agent was stolen by 'X' an Indian spy working undercover in China. His main task was to examine and retrieve, if possible, any agent that China could be producing to be used for possible Bio-terrorism. In one of the most secure BSL-4 laboratories of the world, situated at Wuhu city of China he was able to enter as a student and procure the possible agent for his boss, Vijay Mogal the National Protection Advisor (NPA) to the PM of India who was kept in dark for such activity. Few days after the disease made headlines the theft of the agent was identified and still nobody knew who introduced the virus to the world. Chen Li, the Chinese police sergeant worked hard and found out the link between theft at the BSL-4 lab and a ghost Chinese traveler which escalated the Indo-Chinese tension at the border. The government gave the term Covid Warriors to the doctors and other medical staff who were working overtime with less protection, in place of what they needed the most ........their regular pay. Read the book to experience the life of an anesthesiologist, to get some authentic knowledge about anesthesia which people still lack and to feel the thrill while X retrieves the virus and later escapes to save his life.
