"Are you cross?" is a joke Prince Steffan uses much too often. Steffan's butler, Cross, is not at all happy about it, either. Cross does all the duties for the playboy prince, from polishing armor to drawing Stefan's bath. He is also an expert at sneaking Stefan out of a sensual situation before the husband of Stefan's date finds out about him. Well, it works most of the time. A mysterious black carriage catches Cross's eye, however, on more than one occasion. Is it following the Prince? Who is the occupant, and what do they want?As the mystery unfolds, Cross makes an even more meaningful discovery. Above all else, the title that suits his situation is that he is Prince Steffan's wingman. A great relief, too, as for some time, Cross thought he was the Prince's pimp.
