The Devil on My Shoulder William Timmerman
The Devil on My Shoulder
William Timmerman
The image on the cover depicts the "shoulder angel" analogy of a good angel on one shoulder and a devil on the other shoulder. It is generally considered a fictional plot device used in old movie cartoons like Tom and Jerry, modern animated sitcoms including Family Guy and The Simpsons and classic books like Doctor Faustus and The Screwtape Letters. However, the author maintains that truth indeed is stranger than fiction. He cites the strongly held belief of the early church fathers that Satan assigns a devil to counteract each person's guardian angel in the battle over the person's soul. The belief faded away in time only recently to be reaffirmed by Chad Ripperger, a popular Catholic theologian, philosopher, exorcist and priest. The author delves into the reality of the actual threat the devil on our shoulder presents to each of us and how to live and deal with it.
