Harkers Island, along the southeast coast of North Carolina, is the home of Nish Tuber who recently borrowed a large sum of money from a mobster to invest in Bitcoin. Like all his prior get-rich schemes, this too failed miserably. Now he has to find a way to pay it back-quickly. When the granddaughter of a local duck decoy carver goes missing, vacationing Ty Svenson, a private detective from Wormwood, WV, and his friend Tom offer to help the deputy sheriff find her. With a tropical storm heading up the coast, a newly minted, local meteorologist has decided to make a name for herself by predicting an approaching tropical storm will turn into a hurricane and crush the island. Ty, Tom, and the deputy find themselves at Nish Tuber's home along with the mobster and his hit man; the mobster's ex-wife and her posse; a one-armed demolition derby driver and his girlfriend; Tom's ex-wife who is now a Yoko Ono tribute singer; and the missing granddaughter. Somehow this wasn't the vacation stop that Ty and Tom had envisioned.
