That day in October, when I took her out of our home to bring her to the hospital, I had no idea that it was her first day of her last 26 days on Earth. Little did I know that this was the last time she would ever be in our house, the last time that her voice would be heard within its walls. No more bringing her milk and Rice Krispies when she came to spend the weekend with us. No more helping her into the bathtub for a good soak or listening to her music from her iPad. No more talks at the table and no more laughter erupting after her witty comments. No more snacks of crackers and cheese and no more hugs from our arms to hers.
