A Rocket for the Lodgers is about growing up in the 1950s and coming of age in 1960s Lancashire, when Wigan was as real as Weatherfield isn't now. Boys on trolleys terrorized rush hour bus queues and a phantom rabbit stalked the cobbles. Brainy but puny, our Millgate gang challenged the Lodgers, brawny but thick. A blood-crazed Injun scalped Bobby the Kid and a lusty lad and a lissome lass made love in the churchyard beneath the falling snow.
