Saving Jesus
Bhaktivedanta Suddhadvaiti Swami
There is the historical Jesus. His name was not Jesus but Yeshua. He was not a Christian. He was a Jewish apocalyptic prophet, a social and religious reformer, as well as a spiritual guide. Little of what we know about him is certain, as contemporary sources do not stand up to present-day scholarly scrutiny. Then there is the "official", fabricated Jesus - the Jesus of ecclesiastical theological faith - which has little to do with the historical one. Indeed, there were originally the teachings of Jesus, but they were distorted and replaced by dogmatic teachings about Jesus. Therefore, we ought to "save" Jesus from all the forgeries, myths, interpretations, irrational superstitions and meaningless dogmas that have covered him since the early years of "Christianity", beginning with the self-proclaimed apostle Paul who created the "Christian" religion on the basis of his own concoctions. We also ought to "save" the Christians from the wool pulled over their eyes.
