On her twelfth birthday, Charlie Flores O'Neil makes one wish: to not get attacked by bears. When she leaves her family behind, she finds herself on the edge of the Wyoming Wilderness surrounded by opportunities bursting with exhilaration and peril. Equipped with her backpack full of peanut-free snacks, her first-aid training, a new crush, a growing vocabulary of Spanish words, and a map of the Wind River Mountain Range Charlie feels ready, if not invincible. But when she and the other campers find themselves alone and unsupervised, Charlie and her new companions must discover a deeper source to their bravery in order to prevail against the rugged backcountry environment-a courage ultimately based in family, friendship, love, self-knowing, and connection to nature.
