How Do Humans Become Moral? Social Domain Approach to Moral Development explores various themes regarding moral development, from human nature to civil disobedience. Because moral development is such a complex and multifaceted theme, no single psychologist has succeeded in explaining the whole truth of human morality. Thus, it is essential to review critically the implicit and explicit theories of diverse psychologists and, furthermore, to embrace different disciplines, from philosophy to neuroscience, in order to reach some insights about morals. In this book, the social domain theory of Turiel provides a theoretical frame and methodological standard for the review of empirical and analytical studies of morality. Turiel and his colleagues found that young children have a capacity to make a moral judgment, and embarked on a reformulation of Kohlberg's stage theory of moral development. Social domain approach, as a scientific access to the actual life of children and adolescents, can analyze the strength and weakness of varied results of studies on human morals. Hopefully, this book serves to demonstrate the constructive ideas and findings of academic works on morals and to examine them from a balanced perspective. In the end, it should be said that no texts can make anybody ethically perfect but some texts can help readers understand where to seek moral ideals.
