Born in Iceland in 1874, Thorsteinn spent the first twelve years of his life enjoying the wonders of his Island nation with its rich heritage dating back 1000 years to the first Vikings to make Iceland their home. At the age of twelve, his father broke the news that the family would be leaving their ancestral home and sailing for a new life in Canada. Thorsteinn then had to navigate life in a new country, with a new language and new cultures, often without the support of his family, who were struggling to survive their own hardships. He uses the lessons he learned from his homeland and learned new lessons from his adopted country to survive and thrive.
