Placing the art of design in its sociological and technological context, this film tells the story of 20th century design through the industrial objects that have become icons of their time, reflecting their own era while simultaneously anticipating the future. Objects include the Bookworm bookshelf, Concorde, the Cafetiere coffee maker, the Leica camera, the lounge chair and the Vespa scooter.
