The Bolshoi Ballet’s career to date has been one of triumphant highs and bewildering lows. DANCING FOR DOLLARS follows the legendary troupe from their promising American debut in 1959, through to their disastrous 1996 Vegas tour. Similarly, The Kirkov Ballet has had its share of success and scandal. Amid the fall of Communism, they struggled to balance artistic integrity with the need for commercial appeal, and allegations that its chief choreographer was mixed up in bribery and corruption began to surface. Personal testimonies of those closely involved with the company, specially-filmed backstage footage, and previously unseen archive material make up this illuminating documentary.
