Norah Jones' third album, released in 2007, was a step backwards. Not musically or even sonically, but a step away from mass-market sales and worldwide fame. Norah Jones no longer sounds like a relic of the 70s, but for once allows herself to be unwieldy with self-penned songs and jumps between intimate arrangements and full band accompaniment. While each song is interesting in its own right, in the eyes of the critics the album comes across as an overblown demo tape of someone trying to show what they can do.

Despite the less commercial nature of the third album, there is also a radio hit with The Sun Doesn't Like You. Musically, it is almost difficult to describe the album as pop, as the musical leaps in which the full band switches from jazz to country, followed by a very subtle song with minimal instrumentation, are greater than one would expect from a pop album. Despite its unwieldiness, Norah Jones was very pleased with the evolution of the album, from a performer of a work to an artist living out her own thoughts.

The sound of the original album was already good, and Kevin Grey of CoHearent Audio has now produced an up-to-date remastering using the original data and fine-tuning the sound.
