Reiner's masterful control of his orchestra and of Bartók's rhythms and textures, as well as his intense and precise performance, remain unsurpassed to this day, even by dozens of subsequent conductors. Part of the dedication to Bartók's work is certainly due to Reiner's friendship with the Hungarian composer.
