Ever since Coleman Hawkins established the tenor saxophone in jazz, it has been impossible to imagine jazz without it. The masters of this instrument make houses shake with their lively blues and tame wild beasts with their tender love ballads. Jimmy Forrest, born in St. Louis, Missouri, played with Fate Marable in the 1930s, later with Jay McShann and in the 50s as a successor to Ben Webster with Duke Ellington. On "Out of the Forrest," he leads a quartet that included Austrian pianist Joe Zawinul, double bassist Tommy Potter and drummer Clarence Johnston. We recommend the use of "L'Art du Son" LP cleaner to wet wash your vinyl. Even new records of high quality production will benefit from this.
