While the album carries elements of a personal coming-out journey, Romy's own coming-out process occurred long ago. Instead, it takes on the form of a transformative journey—navigating grief and heartache, ultimately leading towards moments of euphoria.

In the creation of Mid Air, Romy collaborates with esteemed producers Fred Again.. and Stuart Price, along with her bandmate Jamie xx.
