Man Who Invented Swimming
Mick Brady
Mick Brady's debut album, "The Man Who Invented Swimming", contains 10 original songs dealing with themes both light and dark. The album opens with an out-and-out country rocker - "Burning Up Rubber". This is followed by 'We Should Have Known Better' which reflects on growing up in an inner city community and "She Used to Be A Girl With A Future" which tells the story of a very liberated woman. In "Ancient Feelings" a parent reflects the strong emotions felt when a grown-up child leaves home. The next two tracks 'The Man Who Invented Swimming' and 'Life's Too Good' celebrate the simple things in life. 'Stolen Days' is a dark song on the theme of how easy it is to let time slip by without asking ourselves important questions about what we really want to do with our lives. "I Hope They're Together Tonight" deals with a mother's lifelong pain after the death of her newborn child. The insanely happy 'Caught In The Headlights Of Love' captures the intense feelings of falling in love at first sight. The album closes with the very angry "In The Name Of The Faith". This is a hard-hitting song about the bitter legacy left by a society that failed to deal with abuse of children in it's care.
