Nicholas Freeman has always had a difficult, inexplicable life. During the day, he's constantly reminded by his mother, his stepfather, his younger brother and his much younger half-sister that he doesn't really matter to them. He's the white sheep of the family, and the rest of the flock isn't impressed with him. At night, he's often plagued by terrible visions, which sometimes take him into the heart of Lucifer's abyss itself, and he frequently experiences physical attacks from invisible beings. Nicholas can only seem to find fleeting moments of peace in two places, when spending time with his grandparents, who live nearby, and at his over-crowded high school. During his senior year, Nicholas' life takes an unexpected turn and he falls deeply in love. Love, unfortunately, brings Nicholas several levels of new challenges because his first serious girlfriend's mother seems to think as little of him as his immediate family. Nicholas meets a strange, supernatural Blue Lady, and suddenly his life starts to make some sense. He learns that he is an incarnated angel, and that he has agreed to live his current life almost completely surrounded by dark-spirited and angry people, in order to bring God's Love and Light into their shadow world. His assignment, the third most terrible assignment ever handed out by Jehovah, is drawing to a close, but can he survive it?
