Publisher Marketing: After reading, "The Road South," and experiencing the sudden death of the head of the DeWeese family, many readers expressed the desire to know the continuing story of the Children of that Family. "A New Generation," the second book of historical fiction from the pen of Nannie Maude Reynolds is the result of that desire. 'A New Generation' carries the DeWeese family into a new relationship and a new age. The young widow, Margaret, struggles as she tries to raise six children alone. The appearance of a stranger and the difficulty of eking out a living in the mid 1800s influence the young widow to make decisions that change the lives of the family forever. The account of daily struggles of the gentle woman raising her children along with the new relationship of a step-father and two new half siblings, will capture the heart of the reader and hold their attention through the entire book. Mrs. Reynolds carries the reader through the devastating effects of the Civil War. Four of the DeWeese boys volunteered for service in the Confederacy and all four were taken prisoner. All four were released and all four returned home to their families. A half brother also volunteered as well as a brother-in-law. These accounts were found in the Mississippi State Archives. A relationship also develops between the DeWeese Family and the Choctaw Indian Tribe living near the home-place in Neshoba County, Mississippi. Many bits of information such as medical remedies and recipes as well as chickens and puppies were exchanged between these two parties. The actual story of every day events is fiction. The names of family members are real. Any time a date is mentioned the date is correct. Mrs. Reynolds hopes the reader will enjoy the story as it unfolds day by day. It is meant to uplift and inspire the descendants of the people mentioned herein, especially those of Neshoba County, Ms. Any information which may come to light in the reading of this book will b
