Codi is a Shifter - that is, a girl that can shift into her animal form - a coyote - at will. She and a bunch of other teen Shifters are left on their own one summer because they are being Tested for independence. Codi has always been a loner; she agrees with her father's mantra of "There's strength in solitude." That is, until two meddling crows - Teesha & Tosha - "T-Squared" - get her involved in rescuing a rabbit-girl named Pook from the gang she's gotten involved with. Then Codi's friend Nadeem tells her Shifter kids are being kidnapped across the city. They can't exactly call the police, because Shifters guard their identities, so it looks like Codi will have to play the Trickster to find and rescue the kidnapped kids. And she thought the summer was going to be a breeze!
