At ten years old, Angie my daughter understood architecture and structure support better than most entry level construction workers I hired. I'm not sure if it was a gift she had or if she had been around my construction sites too much, all I knew is that she just got architecture. Hearing about the town's sand castle contest at Silver Lake, Angie, conned her way into a family day. Angie quickly dove into her research headfirst. Knowing that she and I were going to enter the contest, my little girl set to work on her research. I remember holding my ten-year-old daughter's hand with my left hand and my wife's with my right. We were standing behind the photographer who was taking pictures for the Gazette, the local newspaper. After snapping a few pictures of my daughter, the reporter turns to her mother and I and asked, "What do you think about the fact that your daughter will be the first face this town sees tomorrow when they open their paper?" What no one at that moment knew was that God was about to use our family to teach a very valuable lesson. The saddest part would be that Angie would be the one who suffered the most because of it. She would indeed get her picture in the paper that next morning, we all would, yet it would have nothing to do with sandcastles or prizes.
