In this book Spirituality and Managerial Excellence the author explains the role of spirituality in enabling Managers to achieve excellence by developing spiritual strength and giving spiritual orientation to all activities. The essence of spiritual strength is identified as the inner assets available with every Manager. These are the body, mind and intellect functioning in the presence of the Atman. To achieve excellence the acme of physical, mental and intellectual health is attained through drawing from the wisdom of the sages. The body is compared to a chariot and the analogy from one of the famous Upanishads is taken as a model for development. Similarly mental health is attained through meditation and intellectual health by developing the faculty of positive thinking. All actions are based on dharma or righteousness which is represented by the wheels of the chariot and which supports the other purusharthas namely artha, kama and moksha. By mind control character development is achieved. The application of spiritual strength and fine tuning the inner assets bring several benefits to the Manager namely mind control, character formation, decision making skills, physical fitness, and a healthy body. Energy is conserved. Time is managed effectively by focusing on the present and living in the present. Human and technical skills are developed by basing all actions on dharma and through a value system based on spiritual principles. Many useful principles and contents are drawn from Bhagavad Gita and applied to daily living. The result is that the individual becomes a person and with values implanted and sprouting from spiritual strength will enable the person to become a Manager par excellence. He will work with dedication knowing the job clearly motivating all those working with him, and work without expecting rewards. His attitude to work will be that of worship. Examples are given from the life of great leaders who were successful because of spiritual strengths and their adherence to a value system. Quotes of eminent men like Swami Vivekananda, Mahatma Gandhi are liberally used to strengthen the validity of thoughts and action.
