Geist has written 24 books: biography (1), poetry and anecdotes (12), children books (8), history books (3) and several compilations. He is not related to Bill Geist of CBS or Willie Geist of NBC, nor is he related children book authors, Christina Geist or Ken Geist. James wishes he was related to take advantage of the "nepotism" connection. Geist lives in northern New Jersey and is married. He was a pastor in NYC for 5 years, and a history teacher for 17 years. He is a graduate of Nyack College and the Alliance Theological Seminary. He has been involved in campaigns against sweatshops, child labor, modern day slavery and genocide in Sudan. Geist's wife is in the assisted living field, and sometimes takes care of Lady Gaga's Grandmother.
