Living on the streets of Liverpool in 1866, a young girl from Cork, Ireland gets along every day in any way she can. Desperation motivates young Fannie Flanagan, and petty thievery is her livelihood. It is a hard life for a thirteen-year-old girl. When a seemingly benevolent man takes her in as a maid to work at his estate, her destiny is changed. After years of service, and increasingly humiliating abuse, Fannie has had enough. She pushes her luck to the edge of her own demise, and throws herself into a new world of independence. She makes her way to the Wild West of The United States, and there she begins a new life for herself.
