A young destitute man ends up in the hospital while committing an apartment robbery: In an effort to escape the police he jumps across a gap between apartments. But he never completes the jump, instead yelling out and losing his grip and landing 20 ft. down on solid concrete. That moment changed his whole miserable life. He goes from a thief to a patient who receives caring and loving treatment to recover with unusual abilities that triggers research into the human genome to examine possible changes in human evolution. Along the way he once again meets the young woman who attempted to help him at the time of his accident.
