The story behind the song that gives this album its title is as follows: During his tour in August 1967, Otis Redding's popularity continued to grow and he found himself besieged by fans at his San Francisco hotel. Longing for a break, the soul singer accepted an offer from promoter and impresario Bill Graham to spend the night on his houseboat at Waldo Point in Sausalito, California.
